Holmes 500
The first Holmes 500 was shipped October 1962 and it was still listed in the 1989 catalog. About 5000 units were shipped; early versions had the square tail gate and side controls. Available options were outboard legs similar to the 600; larger 15” winch drums and a special “Town and Country” model came with one large (15”) and one small (8”) drum. Later units came standard with dual 12” drums and deck mounted control levers with an angled tail gate. There was also a “500 M” version for the military. It was the smallest of the 500 / 600 / 750 series that all used the same double reduction gearbox with rapid reverse. It was often installed on a 1 ton chassis but was best suited to the 2-3 ton chassis so that the operator could take full advantage of its 10 ton pulling power.
